Timothy Han Editon - Against Nature EDP 60ml
For the unconventionally decadent. Inspired by Joris-Karl Huysmans’ 1884 novel of the same name which broke from his naturalist roots, this is a decadent re-interpretation of nature at its most ornate. The sprawling reach of this little known novel can be seen as that poisonous French novel that inspires Oscar Wilde's Dorian Gray to depart on a life of decadence. The French poet and philosopher Paul Valéry called it his "bible".
Against Nature is a blur between the natural and the artificial, ultimately echoing an alternate beauty. This gender neutral fragrance features leafy green foliage, moist soil & earthy mosses underscored with notes of cold metal, blood and lacquer.
Pink Pepper, Lemon, Juniper, Green, Metal

This perfume is set in an organic alcohol base and is not tested on animals nor contains any animal by-products. In keeping with the story upon which it is based, this perfume contains synthesised ingredients. Suitable for vegans.
IN A SEA OF MONOTONY,
WE CRAFT STORIES IN FRAGRANCE.
Our friends and heroes who constantly challenge the norm and find monotony on the trodden path. They are the thinkers, the makers and explorers. The people who inspire us.
Kerouac, de Beauvoir, Mishima
We are inspired by literature and the creative free thinkers.
Iconic works of literature written by some of the greatest writers to challenge convention are the inspiration behind each of our fragrances. Works that delve into the essence of the individual and their relationship to the world and people around them.
AN OLFACTORY STORY
Each of our fragrances tells a story from the scent, to the name, to the bottle and the artistic collaborations forged that bring each fragrance to life.
But it goes beyond that. For us what is more important is how the fragrance unfolds upon your skin and what story that tells. Like a good novel, a fragrance should take you on a journey from the opening notes released in the first few seconds to the lingering remnants that fade away into memory hours later.
To achieve that we have had to do away with convention and the traditional idea of the scent pyramid and fragrance categories. The established notion of how a perfume should unfold could not do justice to the stories we wanted to tell in fragrance.
And like a literary journey there will be moments that take you through both highs and lows.
We handcraft all our perfumes in small production runs, assigning each batch an edition number in the same manner that vintages are assigned to fine wines.
Botanical ingredients vary from year to year due to seasonal influences such as temperature or rainfall. It is these minute variations that can alter the olfactory properties of fragrance materials and cause fragrance addicts to go to great lengths to find “that” specific vintage of their favourite perfumes.
Thus rather than try to avoid disclosing these subtle variations, we choose to celebrate them by allowing you to easily identify which batch of perfume your bottle came from. Take a close look and you’ll notice that after the perfume type you will see a number telling you which batch you own.
LITERATURE, ART & PERFUME
Echoing their literary roots, each box of perfume is made to the exact size of a literary paperback to allow you to place the box on your bookshelf alongside the novel on which it is based.
Additionally, each edition of perfume is associated with one of a series of limited edition numbered art prints on the cover that reflects the perfume within. Simply choose the image which best reflects your personality
We love the golden age of perfumery and choose to craft our fragrances using natural materials set in a certified organic base of grape alcohol.
While our preference is always for 100% natural materials, our ultimate goal is to create fragrances which delight and tell a story. In order to achieve this, we may on occasion source nature identical ingredients for ethical reasons or to obtain specific odour profiles. For example, we would never use natural musk since it is obtained through the killing of the Himalayan Musk Deer. However, we will always state if a nature identical ingredient has been used and why this choice was made.
