Clive Christian 1872 Masculine 50ml
Named for the founding year of The Crown Perfumery and the year Queen Victoria granted use of her crown, the 1872 perfume pair came to life after delving into the company’s archives. While strands of an intriguing and complex past come to play in the finished duo (the green glass bottles are signifiers of its apothecary past), each has been updated to reflect today’s tastes. The feminine version is a fruity Citrus redolent of a heavenly wedding bouquet, its citrus top notes including Bergamot, Tangerine and Lemon offer a resolute freshness. In a nod to the brand’s unerring search for the very finest ingredients, the middle note of Rose de Mai contains the distilled absolute of 170 precious rose heads. The perfume’s base notes of Sandalwood, Cedarwood and the unusual Oak Moss add depth and complexity, making it an extraordinarily compelling perfume. The masculine version is a fresh, spicy, citrusy Chypre. Wonderfully rich and with mysterious notes coming from the Cedarwood, Sandalwood, Patchouli and green resins lying at the base, in the heart rests the heady aroma of Cyclamen, Freesia, Tagete Oil and Jasmine. Sitting proudly at the top of this complex elixir is Clary Sage, a herb synonymous with the strength and vigour of Emperor Nero. Nestled amongst this king of herbs is the refreshing zing afforded by a zesty trio of Grapefruit, Lime and Bergamot, and the spicy warmth emanating from Rosemary, Black Pepper and Nutmeg.
